SIEB & MEYER presents an extended performance range of the innovative three-level frequency converter of series SD2M. The new designs of the device have recently been developed and these are especially suitable for applications in turbo blowers and turbo compressors.
“Over the years we have continuously expanded the SD2M converter family, recently for applications in high-speed turbomachinery” said Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER AG. “The frequency converter is still the first choice for machine tool applications or test stations where it convinces by maximum output at minimum required space, reduced system costs and high efficiency.” Today, seven different SD2M designs are available in the range of 75 HP to 400 HP or rated currents from 165 A to 630 A – including both water-cooled and air-cooled models.
Common to all devices is the innovative three-level technology which ensures excellent current qualities in combination with switching frequencies up to 16 kHz. This prevents excessive rotor heating and reduces the load on the bearings as well as insulation stress. When using SD2M, the converter-related additional rotor losses are reduced by up to 90% in direct comparison to conventional solutions. In most cases, this is sufficient to entirely do without LC filters or motor chokes. The three-level technology enables to realize complex applications with high speeds and compact installation sizes – because heating is prevented beforehand.
